Dear Friends,

We have just received word of the passing of Chuck Colson at 3:30pm April 21st. He was 80 years old. His wife and family were all by his side. You may have known that last week while he was speaking he took ill. When taken to the hospital, they discovered a pool of clotted blood on the surface of his brain.

They performed surgery to remove it and it looked promising after that because he regained consciousness and even talked with the family. I was in touch with Jim Liske, the CEO of Prison Fellowship. Also his personal assistant, Sherrie Irvin, kept us updated.

All of a sudden after an initial progress, Chuck's condition deteriorated and we have received word of his home going.

Chuck was a prophet for our times. His dramatic conversion after the dark Watergate days was almost Paul-like. His courage to share the Gospel with clarity and his deep concern for our deteriorating society were ever at the heart of his thinking. Truly, Chuck was a bold witness for our Lord.

He was always an encouragement to me. It was because of him that I wrote "Can Man Live Without God". He called me after the Harvard lectures and literally pleaded that I put it into print.
Interestingly, just a week before he took ill, he and I were on the phone discussing the vital issues facing America. I even taped a half hour program with him on his popular program "Break Point". Little did we know he would be with his Savior in a few days. The Savior he loved so dearly and served with passion.

Please pray for Patty and the family. We will miss him from the battlefield as we serve our Lord. But his worries for this world are over. I will miss his heartfelt encouragement so much.

With fond memories,

Ravi

For more information about Chuck Colson visit www.chuckcolson.org.

We are very pleased to announce that Zondervan is bringing Ravi Zacharias’s illustrated children’s story, The Merchant and the Thief: A Folktale from India back into print in a hardback edition.

The story follows the misadventures of a greedy fruit seller named Mohan who longs to steal the coveted treasure of the jeweler, Raj. But when Mohan hatches the perfect scheme and still comes up empty-handed, the would-be thief begins to wonder whether there is more to life than material wealth, and whether coveting others’ possessions can ever bring him true riches. A vibrantly illustrated retelling of an Indian folk tale!

Please pray for Ravi and John Njoroge as they head to Clemson University in South Carolina on Thursday. Ravi will be doing an Open Forum there on March 8 on "Coexist: The Question of Intolerance"; John will be joining him for the Q&A. The Littlejohn Coliseum at Clemson is totally sold out- even the extra seating that was created for the occasion. In fact, the general manager at Littlejohn Coliseum said they've never had so many people at a non-basketball event.

The event this Thursday will be streamed live at: www.coexistclemson.com

For mobile users, the event can be viewed using the USTREAM iPhone and iPad application. Download the app here and search on RZIM Media for the live broadcast.

Friends,

This is a special prayer request. Please pray for two forthcoming events at Harvard University featuring Professor John Lennox. He is doing a faculty round-table on Thursday (February 16th) and over 140 have signed up (including other universities in the area).

Both the setting and the number of participants are remarkable. Then on Friday the 17th, Professor Lennox will give a talk at the VERITAS Forum at Harvard. As you may remember, I did the first open forum that they held in 1992. That still remains one of the most memorable events ever for me. We will keep you posted after John's meetings there. I believe these events will prove to be very unique opportunities. Please spread the word and pray.

Blessings,

Ravi

Please note, Professor Lennox’s itinerary also includes speaking engagements at the University of Virginia, Duke University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton.

Mets pitcher RA Dickey spent the first weeks of his new year climbing the highest summit in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. His mission was to raise awareness and funding for an even greater climb in the war against human trafficking. Despite warnings from his baseball coach that any injury would void his four million dollar contract, Dickey thought of his two young daughters and decided he needed to do something significant by raising support for Bombay Teen Challenge (BTC) located in Mumbai, India.

Wellspring was thrilled to hear of this monumental effort as we are committed supporters of BTC. Our annual grant of $75,000 provides housing for 60 children in the red light district as well as ARV treatment for 20 women diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Research estimates there are 45,000-75,000 women in brothels in Mumbai. Forty to fifty percent are under the age of 18, and 80% are HIV positive. In addition to shelter and ARV treatment programs, BTC offers permanent housing for vulnerable women and children. They operate the only clinic in Mumbai offering free healthcare that includes HIV/AIDS treatment, two dental clinics and a mobile feeding service. When we first met founder KK Devaraj, he shared a powerful mission statement when he said, “some people offer soup and no gospel; others come and bring the gospel but no soup. At BTC, we are committed to do both." The NY Times reported that Dickey’s climb helped BTC reach half of its goal to raise 100K for a new clinic in the red light district before he even began his climb. With creativity, determination, and commitment he rallied for his daughters, and for the daughter of another.

To learn more about BTC and other programs, visit www.wellspringinternational.org. There are many mountains to climb, and the courage within each of us to reach for the summit.
