What happens to people who die who haven’t heard of Jesus?
In regards to the eternal destiny of any particular person, according to the Bible (Romans 1:19-20), we can be assured that everyone who has ever lived has had enough light to know God and to call out to him (John 1:9; Titus 2:11). God’s resources are not limited to the physical means by which we share Jesus Christ today in our culture. God is able to bypass the human mechanism in order to speak to men and women. He is near to people who truly call on him. Acts 17:26-27 tells us, “[God] determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.” Deuteronomy 4:29, an Old Testament verse, also tells us, “But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” The Judge of the whole earth will do what is just with each individual (Genesis 18:25).
